Pulmonology is a sub-specialty of Internal Medicine that deals with the health of the respiratory tract. The load of pulmonary disorders is on the rise in India due to rapid urbanization, pollution overcrowding, poor sanitation and lifestyle changes. Asthma affects 15-20 million people in India, among them 10-15% are children and COPD is a common lung problem among smokers.
